My Life and its "so called" Perks
55Living in Michigan, losing my job, having to take a job serving in a restaurant and go back to school, I have realized how bad things can and have gotten.
Today for instance, I was sitting through a "Cutco" presentation for a friend. For those who don't know what Cutco is, it is a business that sells fantastic, very sharp knives that last forever. Well, I was asked to cut a vegetable into pieces with one of these wonderful knives, and of course and sliced open my finger while doing so. Having no insurance, I decided to let it heal on it's own, rather than pay a million dollars to go to the emergency room for one stitch. Which is great, considering I need my hands for work, and people I am serving will be staring at my disgusting finger while I am handing them food.
On top of that, I decided to visit a friend who just got a new kitten. I went over to her house, bandaged finger and all, excited to see the new baby. Once I was there for a bit, I started noticing my eyes watering a bit, and face starting to itch. So, I decided to go to the bathroom and check it out. My face had hives all over it, and my eyes starting swelling to the point of no return. I immediately left, embarrassed and drove home with sunglasses on (even though it was beginning to get dark outside) due to the embarrassment of my face. By the time I got home, I had bumps all around my eyes, which were tearing up and way swollen.
Still, I decided not to go to the emergency room, since I already have medical bills piling up, and went to the store to buy some benadryl, sunglasses and all. I got a few weird looks, but nothing too drastic. It worked for the most part, and the bleeding has finally stopped on my finger as well.
I am left wondering why it is I can't afford health insurance? For one, I make too much money to be allowed to receive government help, (which is around minimum wage) and I cannot afford monthly payments on other types of insurance. Maybe it is a sign I should move out of this state???
